Super Mario Bros. + The Smiths = Super Morrissey Bros.

As a child, I loved playing Super Mario Bros. Until my parents finally caved and bought me my own (for good grades, of course), I would play at my friend Lauren Carreno's. I had my dad's Atari 2600, but once I laid eyes on the NES, I abandoned my beloved Donkey Kong (Coleco had made a version for Atari in the early 80s). The sights and sounds were, and still are, in a class of their own.

When I logged onto Facebook this morning, I saw that a handful of guys I grew up with had posted a link, to Super Morrissey Bros. Apparently, someone had taken The Smiths song, This Charming Man, and had turned it into a chiptune (explanation here), marrying it with Super Mario Bros.

Listening to this was taking priority over a shower for the moment. I checked out the link, and realized that the creator, who goes under the handle lazyitis on Soundcloud, only posted this five days ago, and already has 260,000+ views - what I would give for numbers like that!

For those who are not familiar with The Smiths, here is the song that Alan (the guy behind lazyitis) used. Also, Morrissey = vocalist of The Smiths. If you ever hear anyone talking about Moz, this is probably who they are referring to.

I gotta say, Super Morrissey Bros. turned out pretty awesome. Better than I had expected, truth be told. Hopefully Alan will pop out another chiptune soon - I'd like to hear more 80s covers done in this fashion!
