Holiday Music Monday.

I'm a little late with the holiday music video today, but better late than never, right? I found this gem of a video, which features Cee Lo Green + The Muppets on his holiday tune, "All I Need Is Love," from his recent holiday release, Cee Lo's Magic Moment. I nearly choked on my Gingerbread Soy Chai when I heard Kermit say "Hotlanta" - I was not expecting that. Seeing Cee Lo Muppetfied was pretty awesome + I definitely heard a bit of Lou Bega's "Mambo No. 5" around 3:45. The ending is really funny, so once the credits roll, keep watching!

Holiday Music Monday.

Happy Monday, everyone! As promised, here is another holiday song to help cure your case of the Mondays. This is actually a cover of one of my favorite holiday songs, which was originally recorded by Fall Out Boy, but I think that Kiahna Saneshige's version is excellent as well. If you have a few extra minutes to listen, I highly recommend going to her YouTube page + listening to her cover of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah + Amy Winehouse's Back to Black - how this girl doesn't have a record deal yet is beyond me.

I just looked at the calendar + realized today is the second day of Hanukkah + Christmas is a little over two weeks away. This month is flying by! Make sure to take time each day to enjoy the little things - even if its just a cup of tea after a nice, hot shower. Those little things make life that much sweeter.

Holiday Music Monday.

As I mentioned yesterday, I love getting into the holiday spirit. I figured I would share a video each Monday, up until Christmas is here, to spread the cheer! Now, as I searched YouTube for videos, I stumbled across a song that I loved back in high school. I haven't seen the video in years, but Gary Coleman makes an appearance in it + I had a laugh at the hairdo of a certain Hollywood hunk.

I have to admit, I was dancing in my seat + actually remembered a lot of the words. Erich even stopped me in the middle of it [I had my headphones on] to ask why I was smiling like an idiot + dancing around. I can't help it, holiday tunes turn me into a happy fool!

I Know The New Face Of Girl Scout Cookies!

Over the summer, I took my cousins to the city on a mission. Marissa is a Girl Scout, + she had an audition to be in a Public Service Announcement for the new Girl Scout Cookies campaign. Her younger brother came along for the ride as well. We read the script on the train, goofed off, + had a fun afternoon. The evening concluded with pizza for dinner back home + the wait for a call from the producers. After what seemed like days, Marissa's mom finally got the call, saying that they had chosen her + three other young ladies for the commercials. She eventually reported back for filming + then, it began another waiting game - waiting for the PSA to finally appear.

Tonight, I got a text from my cousin. Marissa is up on the Girl Scouts of the USA website + the PSA has gone live! Here is the video via YouTube, so you can see my awesome cousin in action.

I am SO proud of her. She is such an awesome kid + she has an equally awesome family. I can't wait to give her a big hug + do a happy dance around her. Either she will dance with me, or run away, telling me that I've lost it. :)

As a former member of the Girls Scouts, this is an organization I believe in. I got to experience a lot of awesome things [special camps, activities, volunteering], plus learn responsibility by selling those delicious cookies. So when you buy cookies from your local Girl Scout, don't just ask for a box + walk away, ask them what they're learning in Girl Scouts. They might talk your ear off, but listen to what they have to say. You'll be surprised to hear how much the organization does for the children + the community. It might even inspire you to volunteer.

The Lumineers.

I am really starting to get into The Lumineers as of late. I snagged their self-titled album on Amazon a few weeks ago for under $7 + its probably one of the better music purchases I have made recently. Its perfect for an afternoon drive with the windows down + the wind blowing in your face. Below is the video for their track, "Ho Hey."

New Music: Dominique Pruitt.

I haven't posted a music video in awhile, but recently, musician [and sgli blog reader] Dominique Pruitt reached out to me, telling me about the new single she had recorded, "To Win Your Love." Production on the video was still in progress, so I was waiting patiently to see the finished product. Yesterday, I got an email from D, with the link to the video. I absolutely love the video. Her sound reminds me of gals from the 50's, with a bit of Gwen Stefani tossed in, and a dash of Elyse Rogers [from 90s ska punk band Dance Hall Crashers]. I'm also in love with her sense of style as well.

I spoke with Dominique a few hours ago, and I asked her when we should expect an album. She is in the studio, but doesn't want to rush it [smart girl]. There will be an EP out, and as soon as there is a release date, she will be giving me the info to pass along to all of you! Make sure you crank this up and get ready to dance around the room!

Instagramification.

I'm not one for carrying around a camera, so I rely on my trusty iPhone to do the job. Here are some bits + pieces from the last week that put a smile on my face.

Erich + I went to La Tavola in Sayville for a nice, romantic lunch. We were the only people dining outdoors, so it was nice to have that privacy - its rare that we have peace + quiet. I tried my very first lobster roll (the cold variety). I was so stuffed from the yummy appetizers, that I took the entire sandwich home + ate it for dinner. Super delicious + it didn't break the bank. Gotta love lunch specials!

I laid outside for the first time this summer, for all of about twenty minutes. I'm not looking to get burnt to a crisp, but I definitely needed a bit of sunshine.

Music flashback: I jammed to M.I.A's Paper Planes, reminiscing of my summers spent at Brock's on Tuesday nights for wings + Blue Point Blueberry Ales with my old pals.

I was gifted a plethora of fresh cherries and peaches this week. I shared the wealth, because there was no way we would be able to eat this all on our own!

I am obsessed with Burger King's iced coffee. I get them to make it half mocha, half vanilla. It tastes like a delicious chocolate milk with a hint of coffee flavor. The caffeine gives a nice swift kick, which is always a plus.

If you have never watched The Annoying Orange, I highly suggest you watch a few clips on YouTube. Erich + I lazed around in bed for a bit today, watching fun stuff on YouTube. Some of the skits are cheesy, but a lot of them are pretty hilarious. He had never seen these before - he had only heard the game that I have on my iPhone. Now he understood the odd voice that would yell "knife!" from my speakers.

Music Monday: Weezer.

I've been a fan of Weezer since middle school. I remember seeing the video for "Undone - The Sweater Song" at 3a on MTV back in middle school. I was intrigued by the band and fell in love. Over the years, I have seen Weezer play often (once my mom even had Florida state troopers looking for me and my friend, Tami, but that's another story in itself), and really enjoy the show they put on. Here is one of their most recent videos, for the song "Pork and Beans." The video features internet celebrities, memes and homages to certain television shows/films. If you haven't listened to Weezer before, or haven't seen a video, their videos are always pretty entertaining (check out YouTube for the  "Buddy Holly" video) and their songs are catchy. This track is off the bands 2008 release, known as "The Red Album." Happy watching/listening!

Ginger Talk, Helping Michele Falcone Raise Money For Lions.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, I am running a 5K at the Bronx Zoo in April. I have been asking everyone I know if they can help contribute to my fundraising. My goal is $1,500, and I have raised $310 so far, which is 21%. Not bad, seeing as I only started raising money at the beginning of February. When I asked my friend, Zack, if he could contribute, he said he could not help in the ways of funds, but he had a few ideas.


When I lived in Florida (where Zack currently resides), I was really into the local music scene. I put together a few shows in my youth, believe it or not. Zack had suggested that I put together a show to raise money. Its still and idea in the back of my head, but to be honest, I don't know if I could pull it off. I haven't done anything within the LI music scene since I moved here, so my connects are relatively slim (note: if anyone who is reading this can help me organize something/is in a band + willing to play, let me know). 


Zack had an alternate suggestion - he could make a video for me. Zack and his friend, Sean Harvey, are the dynamic duo behind Ginger Kids. They make videos, promote shows, and are generally awesome. After tossing some ideas back and forth, Zack was really stoked about the possibilities. He and Sean wanted to experiment with some editing, so I told him to do whatever they wanted. Its good experience for them, and its good exposure for everyone involved. Especially the lions.


GK actually wound up making two videos. The first one is a prequel to my "commercial." Keep in mind, these videos are not meant to be serious. At all. This is the actual video description that Sean uploaded to YouTube:
